தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்ட சத்யம் ஊழியர்
சத்யம் கம்பேனி 420 வேலை செய்து மாட்டிக் கொண்ட கதை இப்போது அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்த விசயமாகிவிட்டது. இதே போல ஊழல் குற்றச்சாட்டில் விப்ரோ நிறுவனமும் அசிங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த சம்பவத்தை ஒட்டிய கிளைக் கதையில் இன்போசிஸ் நாராயணமூர்த்தி கும்பலை சேர்ந்தவரின் பாலியல் வக்கிர கதைகள் மீண்டும் அரங்கிற்கு வந்து அசிங்கப்பட்டது.
இத்தனை அயோக்கியத்தனமும் செய்யும் இந்த பகாசுர சூதாட்ட முதலாளிகள், 420 பேர்வழிகள் எந்த தண்டனையும் அனுபவிப்பது இல்லை. ஆனால் எந்த தவறும் செய்யாதா அந்த நிறுவனங்களில் பணி புரிபவர்கள்தான் இதன் கஸ்டங்களை அனுபவிக்கிறார்கள். இந்திய தொழிலாளர்களின் உழைப்பை சுரண்டி கொழுத்த பணம் சேர்த்த தொழில்துறை முதலாளிகள் அந்த பணத்தை சூதாடி தோற்றனர். இன்று சூதாட்டத்தின் நஸ்டத்தை தொழிலாளர் தலையில் சுமத்தி வேலையை விட்டு நீக்குகிறார்கள், வயிற்றில் அடிக்கிறார்கள்.
அது போலவே இந்திய IT துறை சுதாடிகளும், 420 களும் செய்கிறார்கள். கடந்த சில மாதங்களில் பல ஆயிரக்கணக்கானவர்கள் வேலையை விட்டு தூக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர் IT துறையில். IT துறை சூப்பரு சூப்பரு என்று சொல்லி எல்லாரையும் அதனையே படிக்க சொல்லி ஊக்கப்படுத்திய அரசுகளோ இன்று IT துறை கவிழ்ந்து கிடக்கும் நேரத்தில் முதலாளிகளுக்கு அறிவுரை வழங்கி காப்பாற்றுகிறது. இந்த அரசை நம்பி IT படித்தவர்களைப் பற்றியோ அல்லது விவசாயம் செத்து போனதால் நகரத்துக்கு வந்த தொழில்சாலை தொழிலாளி பற்றியோ இந்த அரசுக்கு கவலையில்லை. வாழ்வையிழந்த, எதிர்காலம் நிச்சயமற்ற சதாரண மக்களுக்கு வாய்க்கரிசி போட வருகிறது அரசு. முதலாளிகளுக்கோ சின்ன எறும்பு கடி என்றால் கூட பெயில் அவுட் எடுக்கிறது.
வெட்கமின்றி கொஞ்சம் கூட பயமின்றி சத்யம் கம்பேனியில் 10,000 ஊழியர்களை பணி நீக்கம் செய்ய சொல்லி அறிவுரை செய்துள்ளது இந்திய அரசு. இதன் மூலம் அதனது லாபம் 20% அதிகமாகும் என்று இந்த அறிவுரையை சொல்லியுள்ளது. இந்த அறிவிப்பு நடைமுறைக்கு இன்னும் வரவில்லை என்று நாம் எண்ணியிருந்த வேளையில் மேலே பதியப்பட்டுள்ள சத்யம் ஊழியரின் தற்கொலை செய்தி வெளி வந்துள்ளது. அவரை வேலையை விட்டு தூக்கியதால் அவர் தற்கொலை செய்துள்ளார் என்று தெரியவருகிறது.
எந்தளவுக்கு இந்த அரசு IT ஊழியர்களையும், இந்திய தொழிலாளர்களையும் கேவலமாக, முதுகெலும்பு அற்றவர்களாக நினைத்திருந்தால் 10,000 பேரை வேலையை விட்டு தூக்கிவிட அறிவுரை சொல்லியிருக்கும். மோசடி செய்தவனெல்லாம் சொகுசாக வலம் வருகிறான். வயிற்றுப் பிழைப்புக்கு கிடைத்த வேலையை செய்யும் சதாரணம் மக்களோ இப்படி உடனுக்குடன் தண்டனை அனுபவிக்கிறார்கள்.
ஒரு படத்தில் வடிவேலு சொல்லுவார், ஓரமா நின்னு பாத்தத்துக்கு தண்டனையாடா என்று அது போல முதலாளிகளின் மோசடிகளை நாம் ஓரமாக நின்று வேடிக்கை பார்த்ததற்கு நமக்கு தண்டனையா? இனிமேலும் இதை அனுமதிக்க முடியாது. இவர்கள் இனிமேலும் இந்த நாட்டை அதன் உற்பத்தியை நிர்வாகிக்கும் தகுதியை கொண்டிருக்க முடியாது. நாம்தான், மக்கள்தான் அனைத்தையும் உருவாக்குகிறோம் இதனை நாமே நிர்வாகிப்போம்.

Red-faced over Maytas’ largesse

TOP leaders of the CPM are ducking for cover after an open admission by Maytas Properties, the real estate company run by the younger son of Satyam Computer Services’ disgraced founder B Ramalinga Raju, that it donated Rs 5 lakh to the political outfit.
The CPM’s embarrassment is compounded by the fact that only on Sunday its general secretary Prakash Karat had written to the prime minister demanding that the investigation into the fraud at Satyam be expanded to include Maytas Properties and Maytas Infra, another company run by the elder son of Mr Raju.
While the head of the Andhra Pradesh unit of the party denied getting any money from the company, Mr Karat was more guarded, telling ET that any donation over Rs 20,000 would have been declared by the CPM to the income tax authorities.
“As far as the state committee is concerned, I have no knowledge of any donation from Maytas Properties,” said BV Raghavulu, the secretary of the Andhra Pradesh unit of the CPM and a member of the politburo, the top decision-making body of the party. “Let them publish all the donations made by political parties,” he remarked.
The annual returns of the privately-held Maytas Properties, which is run by Rama Raju, show that the company made the donation in 2007-08. An e-mail asking Maytas Properties if it had made donations to other political parties went unanswered. The returns were filed on November 15, 2008 after being approved by the board of directors on September 1, 2008. ET has a copy of the returns.
The donation link to Maytas comes amid strong suspicion of a nexus between the Satyam fraud and its connection to politicians and real estate deals.
While Chandrababu Naidu of the opposition TDP alleges that the chief minister’s son, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, had land dealings related to Maytas Infra and Maytas Properties, YS Rajasekhara Reddy is blaming his rival for propping up Mr Raju during his term in office.
Mr Karat wrote in his letter to the prime minister that some land dealings by Maytas firms “are obviously irregular and are violative of the law.”
On Monday, the government said it was expanding the probe into Satyam by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office to cover Maytas Infra and Maytas Properties.
Satyam’s failed attempt to buy the real estate firm, which claims land holdings of over 6,000 acres, marked the unravelling of the financial fraud at the software company.
In 2007-08, Maytas Properties took over several land-holding companies and real estate projects owned by entities related to the Raju family and raised an unsecured loan of Rs 600 crore in the form of zero coupon debentures convertible to equity by 2013. The paid-up capital of Maytas Properties at the end of March 2008 was only Rs 5 lakh.

Social divide sparks India violence

The recent alleged gang-rape of a Delhi college student, the latest in a series of assaults on women, has led to an outcry in the Indian capital.
The victim was allegedly attacked by a group of teenagers returning from a cricket match after they discovered her sitting inside a car with a male friend.
The incident took place in Noida, an upmarket Delhi suburb dotted with glitzy shopping malls and software companies, fuelled by India's economic boom.
The police have since arrested 11 young men who belong to village, one of several rural settlements on the edge of the suburb.
Contrasting worlds
While women's groups and the general public have voiced their shock over the incident, the villagers have reacted angrily, saying those arrested are innocent.
It is a classic clash of two cultures drawn together economically but still divided culturally.

Noida police say they have strong evidence to indict the young men and there is little doubt in their mind that they were involved.
"We have certain clues, mobile phone records, DNA evidence, cricket bats that were used in the assault - this led us to the main accused," says Noida police superintendent AK Tripathi.
"After interrogating him we came to know that there were 10 other people who were involved. So we arrested them."
Just a short drive from the police station lies the village of Gadi Chaukhandi, from where the police arrested the teenagers.
Locals tell me that 20 years ago, the area was covered by jungle and farmland.
Now a six-lane highway runs through it, connecting it to the city and bridging two vastly contrasting worlds.
Proximity to the city has brought the villagers wealth - they live in large houses, built of brick and marble with large cars parked in the driveway.
'Instant millionaires'
But outside the opulent houses - time appears to have stood still. Buffaloes graze as children play in the dirt tracks that pass for roads. Women still use hand pumps to draw water.
It is a story that can be replicated in any part of Delhi or, for that matter, India.
"As the city grew, large numbers of people who were farmers sold their land to large developers and instantly became millionaires," says sociologist Sanjay Srivastava.

"What that has meant is that they have large amounts of money which they spend on acquisitions but many of the social attitudes haven't changed."
It is this that leads to a perception of the attack on the college student that is in complete contrast with the world outside.
"We respect our women," village elder Ranbir Yadav tells me.
"But we also have our traditions," he adds, gesticulating at a young woman who hurries away from us with her face averted, her head covered. As he explains, unmarried women in the village cannot travel unescorted or reveal their face to men.
As the villagers sit around, their sense of anger is pronounced.
"All the boys are innocent," one man tells me. "They did not rape anyone but yes, they may have beaten the couple up."
"All these city kids, they come here to have a good time," another villager says.
"Every evening they drive up here in their vehicles and drink and have sex. What was that couple doing here? Why don't the police take action against them?"
It's a point of view that appears to be at odds with a cosmopolitan, modern urban culture that Delhi or urban India represents.
But Sanjay Srivastava says the reality is much more complex.
"Part of this conflict is not just a social conflict, people saying city girls are bad, but also an anger at city people for what is often seen as an exploitative relationship between the village and the city," he says.
Intense anger
Fifteen minutes from Gadi Chaukhandi is the Great India Mall.
This is where young college students come to hang out. It is where the victim and her friend had spent some time before apparently driving out into the countryside.
The mood here too is one of intense anger - directed at the villagers.
A group of college girls are animated as they voice their opinion at a brightly-lit cafe.
"Whatever we do, it's our choice and our life. If we make out in public and people see us it's our problem. Who are you to punish us?" asks one angry teenager.
"Our privacy is what is important to us - not what the villagers think. They are not literate and do not know what a modern society is all about," says another.
But disturbingly, the other concern being voiced is a sense of insecurity and lack of confidence in the system.
One woman tells me that she no longer feels safe in Delhi.
Her male friend says he's decided to take matters into his own hands.
"As a matter of fact I keep a hockey stick in my car. Maybe a month later I'll keep a licensed pistol. Self defence is the key to survival here, sadly."
This growing insecurity is only increasing the divide between the two Indias - rural and urban.
The country's rapid economic progress has created plenty of wealth - across the board. But the social and cultural gap is sowing the seeds of a conflict that often explodes into violence.
